Description

This app is intended for speakers of Spanish who would like to learn or are already learning Portuguese and wish to move from half Spanish - half Portuguese (or portuol) towards a more native-sounding Brazilian Portuguese. It offers more than 50 tips on the words and phrases that speakers of Spanish who are learning Brazilian Portuguese find to be the trickiest to use correctly. The words and phrases were carefully selected from the 500 most frequently used words in Portuguese, as found in a database of authentic language (Corpus do Portugus Corpus of Portuguese).

The app was created by three university professors in the USA whose experience includes teaching, researching, and translating and interpreting between Spanish and Portuguese as well as experience traveling and working (and even growing up, in the case of one of the professors) in Brazil: Barry S. Olsen of the Monterey Institute of International Studies, California, Earl K. Brown of Kansas State University, and Glucia V. Silva of the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.

Each tip can be read and put into practice in a few minutes, and because of this, the app is ideal for business or leisure travelers who have some extra time while on a plane, train, bus (or wherever), to improve their Portuguese. At least one example sentence, with a translation in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and an accompanying audio clip recorded by a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker is included in each tip.

Once the app is downloaded, it is a free-standing application that does not require an internet connection to function.
