The Photographer's Ephemeris Screenshots

Description

The Photographer's Ephemeris (TPE) helps you plan your outdoor photography shoots, particularly landscape and urban scenes.

It is a map-centric sun and moon calculator: see how the light will fall on the land, be it day or night, for any location on earth.

Now with topographic map option, via OpenCycleMap.org

TPE is a universal app with optimized user interfaces for both iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch devices.

BestAppSite.com 5/5 "Get it. This is a quality application that has been very thoughtfully and carefully designed."

National Geographic: "It worked perfectly. The program was dead on..."

AdoramaTV: "One of the most powerful photography applications that I've seen, one that you'll be using for years and years."

MSN Tech & Gadgets: "a godsend of an app for forward-thinking landscape photographers"

TPE's map-based approach means you aren't limited to a predefined list of locations, which often miss the places many photographers go. Instead, search for any place name on the planet or position the map pin exactly where you want it.

Advanced features including visual sun and moon search, automatic time zone and elevation detection, correction for atmospheric refraction and height above the horizon, ensuring that you have the best possible information for planning your shoot.

You can even determine when the sun or moon will be visible behind nearby hills and mountains.

Key features:

- Time and direction of sunrise and sunset
- Time and direction of moonrise and moonset
- Phase of the moon and % illumination
- Times of civil, nautical and astronomical twilight
- Graphical display on a map (Map, Satellite, Hybrid and Topo views)
- Movable map pins - drag and drop the pin exactly where you need it
- Compass display built-in for scouting in the field (on compatible devices)
- Save any location you want - no fixed lists
- Does not require network connection for rise/set time, azimuths and sun/moon position

Advanced features:

- Automatic time zone detection for any location on earth
- Determines elevation above sea level
- View azimuth and altitude of sun/moon for any time of day/night
- Distance, bearing and elevation angle between any two points

Geek features:

- Find when the sun/moon will appear from behind a hill
- Visual sun and moon search: find rise/set date for a specified bearing between two map markers
- Compensation for atmospheric refraction
- Compensation for elevation above the horizon

Note:

- Maps and elevation-based calculations require a data connection to function
- Topographic map data is available only between 60N and 47S
- Topographic maps are not available for the highest zoom levels

TPE desktop version has been a favorite of photographers around the world for over two years. Now you can carry it with you.

What's New in Version 2.1.3

Such big help! (5 stars)
Who ever said the sun sets in the "west", was only partially telling the tale. If you pay close enough attention like a landscape photog does, the golden hour can really have you chasing the sun. It moves not only up and down, but from left to right. Just when you think (an hr or so before) you are in the perfect spot for sunset/sunrise, it moves to a different point fast. A must have when scouting a location.

Awesome App (5 stars)
This is the best app for photographers. I use it almost every time I go out to shoot. Just last night we used it to help us locate where the super moon was going to rise. The only thing I haven't figured out is how to determine the elevation and time for the sun/moonrise. I know this app does it though. I also have the desktop version and recommend it too.

Great program (4 stars)
Very useful program. Desktop version much eaiser to use but having it in the field is a big plus. I wish it could download and save maps for areas where there is no network connection.
