Using the GPS built into the iPhone or iPad 3G, the Tour Guide knows exactly where you are and alerts you to hidden beaches, scenic lookouts, historic sites, hikes, waterfalls, snorkel spots and all of Maui's most interesting tourist attractions. You'll also learn about Maui's history and geography.

The App is split into two parts: the base application, and the GPS tours. If your device doesn't have a GPS (iTouch, or iPad WIFI-Only) you can still purchase the base app which includes the following:

The Maui GPS Tour Guide is the Absolute Best Way to Discover Maui!

Note for iPod Touch and iPad WIFI-Only Users:

You may still purchase the optional Tours, but because your device doesn't have a GPS, the Tour Guide doesn't know your location and can not talk to you as you drive. However, you can still examine the Tour Guide's points of interest on the Tour map, and play the audio associated with each point. This works when you have a good idea of your location, for example, the Historic Lahaina Walking Tour.

Note about Cell Phone Coverage and Data Roaming:

The Tour Guide works without cell phone coverage. The GPS has clinical precision everywhere on Maui. International customers can turn off data roaming. A network connection is used, when available, to update the map, but this map can be cached before heading out on a trip.

REVIEWS FEEDBACK:

A couple reviewers note problems with the GPS/map not working. This happens when you deny the App access to use your current location, which turns off the GPS. Version 1.2 includes warnings to make it clear when your GPS is turned off.

One reviewer complains that the Hana Tour is boring!? The Tour Guide was designed to be informational rather than entertaining. You won't hear the Guide make jokes, play music, or keep you company with trivial conversation. The focus is helping you discover Maui's attractions and telling you about the island's history, culture, and wildlife.

FYI, the Hana Tour discusses virtually every attraction, and will recommend which ones to see and which to skip (since most only have 1 day for Hana). Many attractions are very difficult to find. That's where the GPS Tour Guide Shines!

We used this app on our 3rd trip to Maui. I downloaded it more out of curiosity than an expectation of learning anything new. Well, I was very pleasantly surprised. The app is sort of like a talking guide book and it does a marvelous job of pointing out various attractions. The historical references are interesting although a different voice actor would have been a nice touch.

We are just ending our 1 week stay today on Maui. My family really enjoyed this app all week especially on the road to Hana. Information was accurate and informative. We almost paid a guide for a private tour of east Maui. This app allowed for us to do what we wanted without having to flip through maps or books. I've been to Maui before, but really wanted to explore this time. I found this application and downloaded it, including all the guided tours. As stated all over the app itself is you must pay above he price of the application for the actual tours. I have to say this is the best $15 I've spent in a long time!!
