Description

Do you live for storm chasing? You always keep an ear tuned to the weather report, so you dont miss any news of imminent weather. Youve been dreaming of seeing and capturing a photo of that perfectly formed funnel cloud since you were a kid.

Maybe you lean the other way. You listen to the weather too but thats so you can take cover when things seem ominous. The more advanced the warning, the better.

Regardless of which side of the storm fence you sit on, Storm Spotter is the app you need and want when youre looking for the most complete weather coverage possible. It turns your iDevice into a weather reporting station, with data from 155 radar sites around the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Guam.

Storm Spotter has a bunch of great features that help you stay up-to-the-minute informed about looming weather patterns for your region and around the world. You will receive warnings for oncoming tornados, severe thunderstorms, flash floods and more. You always have the option of turning the warning displays off, if you decide that you need a little weather downtime.

As you would expect in an all-in-one weather app, there are standard, satellite or hybrid Google Maps displays to give you visual positioning and to show you the storms range. The flexibility of Storm Spotter allows you to set the opacity of the radar image, too.

This feature rich app gives you the option of radar animation and the ability to connect to multiple radars simultaneously, as well as navigate between frames. See? Its perfect!

-- Some of Storm Spotters Features --
* Now with high resolution Level 3 data. Storm Spotter is the only app to combine Level 3 radar data with Google Maps.
* Support for Base Reflectivity (four tilts), Base Velocity (four tilts), Storm Total Rainfall, Vertically Integrated Liquid, and Echo Tops.
* A customizable Google Maps (Standard, Satellite, Hybrid, or Terrain) display that allows you to set the opacity of the radar image as well as turn the warnings display on of off.
* A complete warnings list (Tornado, Severe Thunderstorm, and Flash Flood) that also allows you to view the text file for the warning.
* Storm Spotter will automatically connect to the radar closest to the center of the screen so you can just pan around the map to see weather occurring at different parts of the country.
* Users can use the GPS to display their location on the map. Great for storm chasing, or just avoiding the storm altogether. The original iPhone can display location based on cell phone tower triangulation and iPod Touches can be located based on their IP address.
* Radar animation is available, plus the ability to manually navigate between frames.
* Saves images of connected radars between launches so you won't have to download the same image over and over again
* Shake your device to check for updates for the warnings and all of the connected radars (otherwise checks every 2 minutes).
* View all all 155 radars on the map, or see them in a list organized by state or as a list of your favorites.
* Entire application can run in landscape mode and the map can run in full screen.

If you want to stay up to date with weather for any reason, then youd better grab your Storm Spotter now. You wont find another app that gives you as much as this one does.

Required iOS 5.0 or later.

What's New in Version 3.1

# New
- Added support for dual polarization radar products.

The new dual-pol radar products are Differential Reflectivity, Correlation Coefficient, Specific Differential Phase, and Hydrometer Classification.

Note that not all radars support the new products yet, but they will in time.

# Changed
- Small improvements to the radar color tables.
- Data button only turns red if there is an active warning within 100 miles of your current location. Before it would turn red if there were any active warnings in the entire country (iPhone only).
- Improved the behavior of the location button.
- Text shadows a bit more subtile.
- Map popover view is larger and the text is bigger (iPhone only)
- Removed a couple more unnecessary settings.
- Reinforced black outline on the warning polygons to make them stand out more over the radar image (especially helps if the radar image is a similar color to the warning).
- Launches slightly faster.

## Plus the changes from 3.0.1
- Squashed a couple of crashes that managed to sneak into 3.0.
- Replaces the slider for changing the radar image opacity with a stepper.
- Slight edits to some of the radar image color tables.
- Made the map location update more often and more accurately.
- Fixed a bug where the titles on the Data list would sometimes be truncated.

## And the changes from 3.0
- Support for Retina display on the new iPad.

# Radar Data
- Switched to Level 3 data for the radar images. It is higher resolution faster to download. Storm Spotter is the only app to combine Level 3 data and Google Maps.
- Moved from having 21 levels of data to 256.
- Reflectivity and velocity data now provide four tilts of data instead of just the lowest tilt.
- Added new radar in Langley Hill, Washington (KLGX).

# Warnings
- Better warning server provided by AllisonHouse. It is faster and more reliable.
- Warning polygons now have a black outline around them to make them stand out more on a map.
- Warning polygons no longer disappear from the map when panning and zooming.
- Warning polygons now have a button on them that allows the you to bring up the text directly from the map.

# Main Interface
- Simplified main UI. All the buttons are at the bottom for easy access.
- Map is bigger on the screen (especially evident on the iPhone version).
- Data button turns red on the iPhone to indicate if there are any active warnings.
- The radar list is presented in a gird instead of a long list. Makes jumping between products much faster.
- Simplified the settings. Removed a bunch of unused options.
- Full screen is now accessed by tapping and holding on the screen.

# Data List
- The labels on the main data list are colored to make the active warnings stand out more.
- The radar list looks better and the favorites list is more intuitive.
- Warnings are no longer listed by state. They are listed by either time, distance from radar, or distance from user.
- The warning list also shows more information about the warnings.

# Other
- Faster updates. And fixed the bug where the radar would stop updating at times.
- Requires iOS 5.0

# Coming Soon
- Full AllisonHouse integration.

Customer Reviews

Level 3 data is outstanding (5 stars)
This is a new App!!! Best update ever...no crashes, no bugs...this is a very professional app...outstanding job!!! The developer reads his emails and responds. The next updates will even be better than this.

Worth Every Penny (5 stars)
Great app! Works as promised with the recent updates. Far superior to other smart phone radar apps.

Keeps getting better. (5 stars)
I've had this app since it's awful beginnings. With every update, I've seen considerable progress, and now with this latest version, I'm completely sold. Well done to the developer who has obviously been working hard to fix a really complicated app. Having hi-res radar data is very hard to program on on top of Google Maps. The auto radar switch is a terrific feature, as is full screen and shake to refresh. It's practically on par with Radars
